This fallacy is clearly wrong. Since lips naturally have no sebum or sweat glands, they cannot produce their own fat. So you cannot protect yourself from environmental influences, such as cold and heat. Accordingly, lips need appropriate, rich care that prevents the lips from drying out. Appropriate care binds moisture, smoothes, nourishes and soothes chapped lips. The result: delicate shine for healthy and well-groomed lips.

Misconception #2: Lip care dries out the lips faster

That's wrong. The lips cannot produce protective sebum themselves, which is why protection must be provided from outside. Lip care provides the necessary moisture that would otherwise be missing. Since the skin is very thin, it requires a lot of care and there is no such thing as “over-care”. Even with frequent use, there is no habitual effect. The trigger for cracked or dry lips can be the weather, unhealthy diet or even stress. Active ingredients such as hemp seed oil and shea butter offer help here. Mineral oils, on the other hand, can dry out, which is why we avoid them in accordance with our NATRUE certification .

Misconception #3: Lip care is addictive!

There is no truth to this myth either! The skin of the lips is characterized by a very thin stratum corneum. There are no sweat glands to be found and the surface of the lips is practically free of fat. It therefore has a strong tendency to dry out, especially in cold and dry weather. The moisture in the lips comes mainly from mouth saliva. How often a lip balm is used depends on the condition of the lips and has nothing to do with “addiction”. Most people just feel better when they take care of their lips. You would like to experience this pleasant feeling all the time and therefore use lip care regularly. The problem of dry and chapped lips naturally returns as soon as care is stopped.

Misconception #4: Lip care can be drying

That's absolutely true - every type of skin care has an expiration date that you should be aware of. Throughout the European Union, cosmetics must have a best-before date if they do not last longer than 30 months. For cosmetics with a shelf life longer than 30 months, the “shelf life after opening” must be stated on the products. Our natural cosmetics have a shelf life of more than 30 months, which is why you will not find a specific best-before date on our products, but rather the so-called PAO, the symbol of an opened cream jar, which is marked with the period of use after opening.

Misconception #5: We only have chapped lips in winter

That's wrong because our lips are generally very sensitive and dry out quickly because they don't have their own sebaceous glands. It's not just cold that makes lips chapped, but air, heat and UV rays also affect the lips. Hemp seed oil strengthens the skin's natural protective barrier and the gamma-linolenic acid it contains has moisture-binding properties. Shea butter helps to intensively care for the skin, binds moisture and protects against dehydration and environmental influences. Aloe Vera has a moisturizing effect and soothes cracked, chapped lip skin. Without appropriate care, the lips cannot protect themselves against external influences.

Misconception #6: Lip care is not vegan

This myth is 100% untrue! There are lip care products with beeswax or lanolin (wool wax) - but you will never find anything like that in our range. All of our BIO:VÉGANE products do not contain any animal ingredients. Our entire range is vegan registered with the Vegan Society of London - including our organic hemp lip care .

Misconception #7: Lipstick replaces lip care

This myth is false! Although lipsticks are women's most popular beauty products, they hardly contain any of the nourishing ingredients found in lip balm sticks. Although they mainly contain oils and waxes that create a protective film over the lips, they still lack vitamins, antioxidants and fruit extracts. These ensure that chapped lips become soft and healthy again.

Misconception #8: Men don't need lip care

This myth is false! Men's lips are just as thin as women's lips. Both sexes only have three to five layers of skin, which are of course easily damaged. That's why men's lips are also exposed to heat, cold and sun. Unfortunately, many men find lip care unmanly. But she isn't! Women prefer to kiss soft lips rather than chapped ones. Men's lips also need vitamins, antioxidants and care ingredients.
